A skateboard deck is the main component of a complete skateboard. It is a platform to which you attach your trucks and wheels. Skateboard deck can influence your skating style and overall skating experience as it comes in multiple different sizes and concaves. 

What Are The Characteristics of  a Skateboard Decks?

Today's skateboard decks are mainly constructed from a very durable Canadian maple however, there are many different types of maple and hard-rock used for deck production. If you are looking for a long-lasting deck, you should consider getting a deck made out of Canadian maple as it is considered the most durable.

Skateboard decks are constructed out of 7-9 layers of wood with 7-ply being the most popular. The reason for this type of construction is to increase the resistance of the deck. On top of that, almost every skateboard deck comes with double-kicktails which allow the skater to pop and gain more control over the board when performing tricks.

Concave is another characteristic of a skateboard deck which is the inward curve of the skateboard deck. Having a high concave will provide you with more flip speed however, you will find the deck to not have as good foot placement on the deck itself. Lower concave will provide you with better foot placement and overall more enjoyable skating experience however, they have less flip power.

What Skateboard Deck Size Should I Go With?

In general, you should get a deck accordingly to your shoe size. When searching for the right size of the deck, skaters tend to look at the width of the deck rather than the length. When following the rule, you are aiming for the tip of your shoes to go slightly beyond the deck as it will make performing tricks a lot easier.

Even though it is recommended  to choose a deck accordingly to your shoe size, it is extremely important to remember that at the end of the day it will all come down to your personal preference.
