What Are Longboard Trucks?
Longboard trucks are the T-shaped cast aluminium parts that keep your wheels attached to the bottom of your deck.
How Do I Choose My Trucks?
When it comes to longboarding and choosing your own set of trucks, it really depends on the style of riding you aim to do and the type of longboard deck you have as it might require either top mounted or drop-through truck. Top mounted trucks are fully mounted on the underside of your deck where if you have a drop-through deck, you will have to take the truck apart and drop the baseplate with the kingpin through the deck in order to connect the truck hanger to the underside of the deck.
Top mounted trucks will provide you with some great responsive riding and drop through trucks will give a slightly bit more stability!
What Size Trucks Should I Get?
The size of longboard trucks is usually in between 150mm - 181mm which represents the length of the truck's hanger. In most cases the trucks should be the same width as your board however, they can be either wider or shorter depending on the style of riding you have. Wider trucks will provide you with some extra stability where the shorter set of trucks will give you much more responsiveness.
Longboard Truck Angle
By the truck angle, we mean the angle of your kingpin relative to the baseplate. Longboard trucks tend to have an angle between 35°-55°. The higher the angle, the more responsive your trucks will be so it is really a matter of preference when it comes to choosing the angle of your trucks.
