What are BMX Tyres?
Tyres are round shaped rubber covers that you place over the tube which is then attached to the rim of the wheel. Having a good set of tyres is essential if you want to progress in BMX-ing. BMX tyres are made in a way that makes them strong, durable and grippy in order to give you the feeling of security and control when riding your BMX. Every tyre has its own individual suggested level of pressure it can take and it is measured in PSI. So it is really important that you check what the suggested tyre pressure is in the description before pumping it up.
BMX tyres can be either foldable or non-foldable. Foldable tyres are made up off really strong Kevlar material, making the tyre a lot stronger than your more common non-foldable tyre. However, these tyres tend to be more expensive which is why most BMX riders resort to the non-foldable tyres.
Tyres come in many different designs and colour-ways so there is something out there for everyone!
Which BMX Tyres Should I Choose?
When choosing your BMX tyres it is important to take their width, diameter and thread pattern into consideration. BMX tyres range from 12"-29" in diameter and the most common size is 20". Their widths can vary from 1" to 2.5" with 2.25"-2.4" being most common. If you will get a tyre that is 20"x2.25"-2.4", it will serve you well by providing you with some great balance and control over your bike!
Thread pattern is another important factor to take into consideration. The thread pattern depends on the model and it will dictate how much grip you will have when riding your BMX.
What is So Special About BMX Tyres?
Beside the BMX tyres being much smaller compared to tyres for other disciplines. The treading on a BMX tyre is more shallow and the tyre itself is much wider in order to provide you with some grip and cushioning.
