What are BMX Pegs?
BMX pegs are the plastic/steel cylinder shaped platforms that are attached to the wheel axles. You can have up to 4 pegs on your bike, two on your front wheel and two on your rear wheel. Pegs open up doors to a huge variety of tricks that you learn ranging from flatland tricks to different grinds on ledges and rails.
Pegs come in various different materials, axle sizes, lengths and diameters. Most BMX pegs are made in standard sizes to fit 10mm front wheel axles and 14mm back wheel axles however, some brands can have slightly different measurements so it is important to double check if the pegs will fit your wheels.
Which is Better? Plastic or Steel?
There are advantages to both materials when it comes to pegs. It really depends on where you are planning on using your pegs. Steel pegs are extremely durable and can withstand a lot of abuse making them perfect for any street rider. Then we got the aluminium pegs which offer a great balance of being strong and lightweight. Plastic pegs are more common within the park scene as they slide really well on metal and are much lighter than the metal pegs. Most BMX pegs are made up of a thinner metal tube and a plastic sleeve on top of it however there are some fully plastic pegs out there. Having pegs with replaceable sleeves is great as once the sleeves crack or simply wear out, they are very cheap and easy to change.
