BMX Pedals
BMX pedals are the two platforms on your BMX bike which are attached to your cranks. When searching for a good set of pedals for your BMX bike, it is important to take a couple of things into consideration such as pedal material, pins and most importantly, the size.
Starting with the material.. Pedals are usually made up from plastic or metal. It is important to choose a material that works with your style of riding. Plastic pedals tend to be lighter, slightly more grippy and a lot cheaper than the metal pedals. Metal pedals on the other hand are very strong and durable however, they do add a little bit of weight to your setup and are a lot more expensive. Also little heads up.. Getting a shiner with metal pedals hits different.
BMX Pedal Sizes
There are two main sizes when it comes to pedals. The 9/16 Inch found on most of the bigger BMX bikes and the 1/2 inch, which is usually found on the kids models. These sizes refer to the pedal axle diameter which will be determined by the type of crank-set you have. The 9/16 Inch is usually suitable for all 3-piece and 2-piece cranks while a 1/2 inch is made for only the 1-piece cranks.
Which BMX Pedals Are The Best?
This is a question that needs to be answered individually by every rider as it all comes down to personal preference.. If you prefer your pedals to be slightly heavier but super durable and strong then the metal pedals are the best. However, if you want your pedals to be lighter and you don't mind changing your pedals from time to time, then the plastic medals will be your match.
It is important to assure that your pedals are not worn out and that the BMX pins which stick out from the platform are still there as they provide you with extra grip!
