What Is a BMX Frame?

Frame is the core of a BMX bike, it is the biggest and most essential part on the bike.

A frame is one of those parts on a BMX that is most satisfying and scariest parts to buy at the same time. The reason for the satisfaction is the fact that the frame can change the entire look of your bike and can make a huge difference to your riding when you get a better fitting frame. However, the scary part about buying a frame is the fact that it is the most expensive part on the bike and it is important for you to make a good choice when buying a frame in order to enjoy your riding as much as possible!

Head-tube Angle: Steep or Flat?

Head-tube angle plays a big part in choosing your frame as it is responsible for the responsiveness of your BMX bike. The steeper the head-tube angle is, the more responsive is your BMX allowing for sharper turns. Most park/street riders prefer a steeper head-tube angle where trail riders prefer their head-tube to be more flat in order to gain more control over the bike at high speeds.

Chainstay

When we are looking at the responsiveness of the bike, chainstay is a huge factor. The usual chainstay sizes vary from 10"-14" depending on the frame. Most park riders prefer a shorter chainstay as it makes their rear end shorter providing them with more responsiveness. On the other hand, trail riders like their chainstay a little longer as it provides them with the extra bit of control.

What Materials Are Used When Creating a Frame?

Most of the Freestyle BMX Frames are made from either Hi-Ten steel or Chromoly, in some cases it can be a mixture of both. These materials tend to be very heavy however, they are extremely durable which is exactly what you need for freestyle BMX-ing.
