BMX Bottom Brackets Are Essential
Bottom Bracket is the part that connects both of your BMX crank arms together and allows you to pedal smoothly. The quality of comfort and smoothness when pedaling depends on your bottom bracket that's why it is essential to have a bottom bracket that will sustain everything you throw at it!
Four Different Types Of Bottom Brackets
There are four different types of bottom brackets. These are the Mid bottom bracket, Euro bottom bracket, Spanish bottom bracket and last but not least American bottom bracket. They all come in a range of different sizes so it is crucial to choose the size that fits your frame shell.
Mid bottom bracket is by far the most popular and it is found on most of the bikes as it's very easy to install and sits nicely in the frame. Amercian bottom bracket is the oldest type and has the largest diameter. Spanish bottom brackets are a lot smaller making them look very nice and clean. Euro bottom bracket is the last type and is commonly found in Race BMX bikes.
Bottom Brackets Sizes
There are 3 different sizes of bottom brackets which are 19mm, 22mm and 24mm. These measurements represent the diameter of the bearing hole and it is crucial that it matches the spindle size from your crankset in order for the bottom bracket to fit. The 19mm size is probably the most common and practically all of the brands have models with this size. That being said, the 22mm and 24mm bottom brackets are much stronger than the 19mm without any increased weight making them a choice of many advanced riders.
